Dating Etiquette

First impressions leave lasting impressions, especially when playing the dating game! You will be judged by your presentation, mannerism and conduct.

InviteU2 wants to see all members put their best foot forward at our events so we have established a dating etiquette guide to assist you.

Do…

• Dress comfortably and appropriately for the occasion. Have clean styled hair, ironed clothes, deodorize and wear a pleasant scent or after-shave.
• Treat other guests on dates and at events with dignity and respect.
• Guys: Open the restaurant door for ladies, gentle-man like behavior or “chivalry” is always a stand out.
• Ladies: It is appropriate to excuse yourself and apply the lipstick in a private area such as a restroom.
• Turn the conversation around to get your date’s views and contribution to the subject.
• Use humour if you can, everyone always enjoy a good laugh.
• Most importantly, relax and be yourself!

Do not…

• Indulge in offensive conversations or enforce a strong opinion.
• Avoid topics that could lead to heated conversation – politics / religion.
• Brag and talk too much about anything, especially yourself.
• Be rude to wait staff.
• Share details of past dating history. It places your date in an awkward position and hints that you are not over your past relationship and therefore could hinder future opportunities.
• Speak with your mouth full, lick your knife, or shovel food into your mouth. It is simply not a good look!
• Have enough money to pay for your fair share of a bill.
• Do not argue about a bill.
• Out of consideration for others at a table, please refrain from texting, tweeting or using your mobile phone. If it is necessary to do this please excuse yourself from the table.

There are many different ways to behave appropriately when on a date and these are just a few ideas to be used as a guide. Just remember it is best to be yourself and respect others.

Dress code for dinners and events: Dress to impress! Smart casual is the way. Ladies wear your favourite classy outfits that flatter your figure but are still respectable. Guys, wear a collared shirt with a good pair or pants or jeans and if appropriate a jacket. Personal hygiene and grooming is of utmost importance.

Dress code for activities: Dress in suitable attire for that specific activity. For example, if playing golf - wear shorts or long pants, shoes and socks with a collared shirt. Or if kayaking, wear sun safe attire that will dry quickly.
